One idea can keep growing.Give the idea a life beyond its appearance.
A surprising look can be a lovely beginning. Ask what the character cares about, who they might help, or what they find difficult. These questions work with pencil and paper as well as AI tools.
In Rifflo, children meet Clover, help Luma’s shop, and later create for Milo. They make pictures and songs for these characters; they do not need to invent a companion before starting.
Give them a reason
Who might they help? What would they want to say? Let the child choose.
Make the idea visible
Draw it together or describe it to an age-appropriate tool with adult supervision.
Look again
An AI image can add details nobody asked for. Talk about what fits and what does not.
A friend gives an idea a purpose.
In Rifflo’s second chapter, Milo misses Pip. Your child can make a picture or song for him. This Rifflo illustration shows the friends in their story; it is not a child’s generated result.

There is no perfect first prompt. A child only needs one starting choice and room to make the next one.
